David Andersen Pianos

Steinway & Sons, of Long Island City, Queens, New York, and Hamburg Germany, have been the “800-pound gorilla” in the high-end piano world, grabbing the overwhelming share of concert usage, “name-brand” recognition, and artist preference since shortly after they started making pianos in a brownstone in lower Manhattan in 1854 (the factory in Hamburg started in 1886.) By 1860 they were the toast of the world, the Steinway exhibition causing literal riots at that year’s Paris World’s Fair (too many people, too small a hall.)

There is so much myth, ignorance, marketing hooey, and fantasy belief systems associated with Steinway because, of all piano makers, they have become a household word, like Kleenex or
Jell-o.

Because of this massive branding, the resale and restoration value of Steinway pianos is greater than any other brand. The ongoing debate about the quality of “modern” Steinways as opposed to “vintage” Steinways is endless, filled with ignorant positions, and fodder for a completely different conversation on a different day.

Suffice it to say that any Steinway that David Andersen Pianos is associated with or offers for sale or rent is a singing, resonant, world-class piano.
