Steingraeber Pianos

David Andersen Pianos, a new and different custom piano boutique  in Los Angeles, California, is pleased and proud to announce that Steingraeber & Sohne (stein-gray-ber and sons) has awarded their coveted southern California franchise to the dedicated team of artisans and piano lovers tucked away in a hidden sculpture garden about 2 miles from Venice Beach.

The intimate, by-appointment-only store offers some of the finest artisanally remanufactured vintage pianos, such as the 1953 Steinway "D" concert grand or the 1894 Steinway flame mahogany "B" 7-footer currently in-house, and now has the pleasure of offering for sale what they firmly believe is the finest newly manufactured instrument in the world -- certainly in the same realm as the hallowed instruments currently made by Hamburg Steinway, Fazioli, and Bosendorfer

Maestro Leonid Hambro,  the internationally acclaimed classical pianist, has said unequivocally that a new Steingraeber 5' 6" grand he played within the last couple of years was a piano that "answered all of a pianist's needs---and no other piano can do that."

Several of the finest jazz and studio players around -- Don Grusin, Mike Garson, Chris Guardino, Mike Lange -- have played Steingraeber pianos owned by David Andersen Pianos, and the comments have ranged from  "shocking control" to "mysterious depth" and  from "so amazingly clear" to "way too much fun." Tamir Hendelman, one of the world's finest piano players, composers, and arrangers, has perhaps said it best: "So intimate, so personal, so responsive. The pianos are dark, powerful, clear and brilliant at the same time.  Amazing."

Steingraeber pianos have been the toast of piano cognoscenti in Germany, France, and the rest of Europe for five generations, operating out of a  picturesque little castle in the world-famous Bavarian town of Bayreuth, Richard Wagner's home town and the site of the amphitheatre and festival that bear his name.  Udo Steingraeber, the current owner (and a skilled piano technician and engineer in his own right) has decided that his instruments belong on the concert stage and in the best homes, schools, and theatres all over the world -- and that his unparalleled instruments are the best pianos you've never heard of.  David Andersen Pianos aims to change  the last part of that last line:  they want Steingraeber pianos to be the best pianos you've ever played, been thrilled by, and fallen in love with.
